Little Gasparilla Island is a barrier island in Charlotte County, Florida. Gasparilla Pass separates it from Gasparilla Island to the north. Placida Harbor separates it from the town of Placida to the west. A narrow strip of beach and mangrove swamp connects it to Don Pedro Island to the north.
Between Sarasota and Ft. Lauderdale, Little Gasparilla Island is a hidden gem. On Florida's west coast, in Myers. The island is only accessible by private boat or water taxi, and it is largely made up of single family residences, with about 350 occupants who are mostly part-time.
There is no bridge connecting the island to the mainland. Private boats or water taxis are required for all access. On the island, there are no roads and hence no automobiles; instead, there is a sandy cart route that allows you to travel and tour the island by golf cart.
Swimming is ideal at the beach. When entering the sea from the coast, there are no significant drop-offs. The bottom is beautiful white sand, and a sand bar around 10-20 yards offshore keeps the waves to a minimum. In most cases, the water is very clear.
